Our Story
Meet the Owners - Sara & Kevin
Like many good things, it started with time spent here.
We had been cottaging in the Southampton area for more than twenty years before The Inn ever entered the picture. Introduced to this special place by my longtime friend — and now our Innkeeper — Colleen, we quickly fell in love with the rhythm of the town and the ease of life by the lake.
Those early years were filled with simple pleasures: weekday mornings at the Southampton Tennis Club while the kids ran freely, stops for ice cream, long afternoons on the beach, and the kind of unhurried days that stay with you long after summer ends. Even then, we had a feeling this was somewhere we would one day call home.
When the Inn came up for sale, it wasn’t part of a grand plan. We had gone to see it alongside a friend who had dreams of opening a restaurant. While it wasn’t the right fit for that vision, we were immediately drawn to the building’s history, character, and sense of place. What began as curiosity quickly became conviction — and we decided to take the leap.
Over the years, we’ve thoughtfully refreshed and gently reimagined the Inn, always with care to preserve its warmth and heritage. What matters most to us hasn’t changed: creating a place where people feel welcome, comfortable, and at ease — a place where it’s easy to slow down and settle in.
Now, four years in, we feel deeply rooted in Southampton. We’ve loved getting to know the local community and becoming part of town life, finding ways to give back by hosting events that bring people together. From intimate gatherings at the Inn to larger community celebrations — including last year’s town Shin Dig with the Foaming Dragon and beer garden out front — the Inn has become not just a place to stay, but a place to gather.
One of our greatest joys has been welcoming guests back year after year. Many who first arrived as visitors have grown to love Southampton as much as we do, returning for the walkable lifestyle, the lake air, and the feeling of familiarity that comes with staying somewhere that feels genuinely cared for.
Today, The Southampton Inn is shaped as much by our guests and community as by its walls and gardens. It’s a place built on history, strengthened by relationships, and carried forward with intention — and we’re grateful to share it with everyone who walks through the door.
Thanks for spending time with us !

The Story Behind the Logo
A key is an invitation — a way to open a door and step into something new. For us, it represents the beginning of an experience: a weekend away, a moment of rest, a new adventure, or the simple joy of slowing down.
At the center of the Inn’s key sits a sun, inspired by the nightly gift of sunsets over Lake Huron — a reminder to pause and take in the beauty that ends each day here. Surrounding the sun is a floral motif, representing the gardens that wrap the Inn and the care taken to create spaces meant for lingering.
The bittings of the key are marked with 1896, the year the Inn construction was completed — a quiet nod to the history and generations of stories held within these walls.
Together, the key symbolizes what we hope every stay unlocks: connection, comfort, and the feeling of having arrived somewhere special.
